We are looking for the parents and siblings of Amos Rooke. His headstone and records in the Moravian church on Staten Island state he was born in Philadelphia on 17 March 1753. He died on Staten Island 30 Sept. 1842. Records at the Moravian Church also state Amos says he was "raised a Quaker." We have searched records at Swarthmore and came up with nothing. In Amos' application for a pension(1833) for the Rev. War he states he enlisted in the PA Line under Captain Proctor and served in Col. Proctor's regiment. He was in Philadelphia about 6 weeks before the Battle of Brandywine in a regiment of artillery. Any clues about the origins of this man and his family would be greatly appreciated.

I am researching my DUNGAN family line and have come to a standstill. In the 1900 census it shows that John J. Dungan and Hannah Israel had been married for ten years, however I don't know the month or anything. Does anyone know how I can find a marriage certificate with such little information? Hannah's death certificate did not have any information about her parents, so I don't even know her parent's names. I did find a Hannah Israel in Philadelphia in the 1880 census, however there is a slight discrepancy of age which I need to verify. Please help!!!

One of his sons, named Samuel was born in 1793 in MD; Samuel had several children, one of them being John Van Buren Moyers (my great grandfather) born in Lincoln County, TN in 1822. CARR, MCGRAW posted by Sharon McGraw on Thursday, April 15, 1999

I am researching my family tree surnames McGraw & Carr. My great grandparents in Philadelphia, Pa. From the 1910 & 1920 census it looks like they stated that Jennie (nee Carr)McGraw and Philip McGraw came to USA from Ireland. Jennie in 1876 and Philip in 1873. Philip was Naturalized in 1878 and Jennie in 1888 according to the census from 1920. On the 1910 census they list a son Joseph McGraw age 15 which makes DOB app. 1894 born in Penna. They lived in West Phila in 1910 and 1920 time period I was not able to find them on the 1900 census though and 1890 census was destroyed. The 1910 census also states Jennie and Philip were married 28 yrs that puts married in the year 1881. Jennie had 6 children reported on 1910 census and 5 were still living(girl,Philip,Frank, girl,John,Joseph). That tells me one of the girls died. The son Philip never married and died in 1949 buried at Holy Cross cemetery in Pa. John married Maria O'Donnell and had children. Joseph I don't have anything else on. I know Frank Joseph McGraw married Margaret Winn in 1/1920 at Our Lady of Victory Church and they had children (Gen,Francis,Margaret,Eugene,Eleanor,Philip,Catherine,Anna,Madeline) My father is Francis Joseph McGraw married to Geraldine Fanelli. Oh, I also found out that Philip McGraw was most likely from Donegal Ireland. I haven't been able to locate Philip & Jennie beofe 1910. If you have any info I would like to hear from you.

BOSLER posted by Larry Bosler on Thursday, April 15, 1999

On August 15, 1820, John Bosler, a butcher who was born on September 15, 1793 and lived in Heidenheim, Baden-Wurttemberg, Germany, arrived at the Port of Philadelphia via Amsterdam. In Philadelphia, he and his wife had the first American-born Bosler, a son named John, born ca 1824. There is a possibility that John was born in Switzerland but there is little corroboration of this. They had two more sons after John, Charles C., born ca: 1831, and Joseph A. (1/8/1842 - 1923). Charles followed his father into the meat cutting trade, while John became first a butcher, then a bricklayer and then a railroad superintendent. From 1835 through 1850, John and his family lived at 602 N. 2nd Street in the District of Northern Liberties. In 1855 and 1857 they were found to be living at 5 Hancock Street, and from 1858 through 1865 at 1209 Hancock Street. Both of these addresses are in the area known as Northern Liberties.

EBLING, EPLING posted by Richard Keith Epling on Thursday, April 15, 1999

I found the name Catherine EPLING in an online census index. She is listed as being on the 1820 census for Philadelphia Co. I've also found the name Christian EPLING listed as a soldier in the War of 1812, serving in the 4 detachment, Pennsylvania Militia. I don't know if this Christian EPLING was from Philadelphia Co. or not. Does anyone have any information on either of these people or other Epling's in the late 18th or very early 19th century? Does anyone have access to the 1820 census who could maybe let me know what else it says about Catherine EPLING? According to the index, she was in Middle Ward, and the entry was on page 80. My 4th great grandfather John Paul Epling (aka Paul Ebling) first appeared in a land survey in Montgomery Co., Va. in 1782 and there is some reason to believe he came there from Pa. so I'm interested in any early Epling's in Pa. So far I've looked for a connection to the Ebling's of Berks Co., Pa. but have had no success. I'm hoping these two early Epling's may be related. Thanks for the help.

WOBENSMITH posted by Jane Derosier on Thursday, April 15, 1999

My great great great uncle, Henry WOBENSMITH, Jr., died in Philiadelphia on Sept. 24, 1865, as a result of injuries sustained "on the railroad." Born in 1855, he was 19 1/2 years at the time of his death and a "foreman on the railroad." He fought in the Civil War, having been mustered into the 95th PA Volunteers on Dec. 26, 1861 (in Germantown, I believe), and mustered out, with his company, on July 17, 1865. After having survived all those years as a Union soldier, his death two months after mustering out is ironic. I am very interested in learning more about Henry, particularly the specifics of his death on the railroad. Any information about Henry, the 95th Volunteers, or where I might find information about an accident on the railroad that caused his death, would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for any help.
