I've recently started researching my family ( Ripka ) who have been in the Manayunk area since the early 1800's and my g-g-grandfather, Joseph Ripka, who had a series of 8 weaving mills in the Phila. with the primary 2 in Manayunk.

Since all the members of my father's family are deceased I can only rely on those who have studied history and are knowledgeable about Manayunk and the families that grew with the area. I have made some contacts through the internet which have given me some history of the Ripka family, but I would like to know as much as I can so I may pass it to my daughter.

Any information I can obtain be appreciated.

James is our line. John stayed in Philly, Edward moved to NJ as did James at early ages. Mary married a Charles McMullin, stayed in Pa till Charles died, then she went to NJ live with son. One son was a Priest, Father Jack in Avon many years till his death.

When John Quigley the father died, Johanna married Thomas Scanlon and had at least 4 more children, including a set of twin girls. I James Quigley was baptized in St Charles Borromeo Church in Phill, that Mary Quigley was born in Chester Pa, as was one Scanlon child, Helen.

I am trying to locate where Gertrude Starkey was born in 1855. Her parents were Dr. George and Caira Skelton Starkey. Dr Starkey graduated from Hahnemann Hospital Medical (School) in March of 1855 and worked as a physician in Reading, PA for two years before returning to live and work in Philadelphia, PA. Gertrude's mother was from Lexington, Massachusetts but I don't think she went home to have this baby. Can you possibly help me? It would be very much appreciated. I think she was either born in Reading or Philadelphia. Cheerio and thanks,

Looking for information on the marriage of Emeline (or Emmeline) H. Brown to John Rudd (ret. Commodore, USNavy) about 1863 to 1867 in the Philadelphia area and any births of any children. (She was living in NY City in 1897 but stated that she was the daughter of a renown Philadelphia attorney, David Paul Brown and that she had four married daughters.) It is possible she was a widow when she married Rudd but apparently did not marry again after being widowed by Rudd in 1867. Rudd and his first wife, Eliza Speed, were living in Philadelphia when Eliza died. Thanks so much for any help anyone can give.

I had relatives in Limavady, Northern Ireland. Apparently my late grandfather Donald Chisholm Nicholl b.1907 had two brothers and one sister. the brothers were David and John Nicholl. I seem to have found a trace of them, well John at least emigrating to the USA to re join David (already there). John was 21in 1913 when he disembarked at Ellis Island giving an address that is only partly legible from the ships manifest....?????? Valley Farm, Stham, Philad. The first word COULD be Radnor??? and I presume the rest is abbreviated Southampton, Philadelphia? Why do I keep"finding"Southampton NY? are they the same?

ANY help, suggestions would be very much appreciated by myself and my elderly Father.

I am looking for information on Anthony Lichtendorf and Esther Lichtendorf. I think they may have been married, but I'm not sure. I think she moved to Chico, California in the 1980s, and passed away there or maybe in Philadelphia in 1993 (her maiden name is either Leventhal or Davis). I think he (and maybe she??) lived at 2717 Salmon Street in the 1980s as well.

Anyway, I am researching the last name Lichtendorf and any help or marriage/birth/death records would be helpful if anyone has access to any databases in Philadelphia.

I am looking for information on my great-grandparent's families.. Andrew Oleson and his wife Martha brought 4 children with them from Norway to MN in about 1852, Ole, b. 1845, Bertha, b. 1847, Albert, b. 1849, Johanna, b. 1851 all born in Norway. They had 2 children born in Minnieska, MN, my great-grandmother, Eliza, b. 1854 and Anna, b. 1855. They show up on the 1860 census. Eliza married Charles E. Bechelsheimer in 1874 in Red Wing, MN and had one child Mary Estelle born in 1875 in Elbe, MN. Her husband died later that year. She remarried in 1876 to my great-grandfather, John Patrick Purdy, b. 1843 in NY and they had 3 sons, Edward Marian b. 1877 in Weaver, MN, John Patrick, b. 1879 in Chippewa Falls, WI and William, b. 1881, also in Chippewa Falls. This husband died in 1885 in Tower, MN. She then remarried a third time in Tower to Robert G. Murray, also known as Robert Guisse or Geisse, b. 1841, Philadelphia. Any prior information on Murray would be appreciated. Name change on Murray was due to mix-up in records in Civil War as he was hospitalized, but with whereabouts unknown to his PA Calvary Regiment, he was charged with desertion. Until this charge was cleared up, he went by the name of Murray. He came to Tower, MN with 2 children, Margaret Mary, b. 1872 in MI and by then 11, and Robert, b. 1873 in MI and by then 10. As far as we know the children went by the name of Murray. Don't know their mother's name or where they had been in the meantime and she probably went by the married name of Murray as did my great-grandmother until she died.

My great grandfather, William Rivers, born in Tudhoe Colly, Durham England, left England from Liverpool in 1903 to arrive at Ellis Island in Nov. of that year. His U.S. destination at that time was 1490 Wilton St West Philadelphia Pa. I have no idea who lived there in 1903/04 and have pretty well exhausted web sites that might help. If anyone can tell me how to get a copy of the 1903/04 city directory I would be most obliged. I have contacted the Historical Society and they were unable to help.
