Phy Wedding
Paul Phy was my first verifiable immigrant to America in our
Philadelphia Phy family. All we know for sure, is that the
name was something else to start with, and Phy is not a
German spelling. It may have been Phile, Fey, Vey, or Feik,
or a variation of any of them. My mom, Jennie Stella Phy,
joined the Navy early in WWII. Her father, Charles Frederick
Phy, had been gassed in WWI. Her two younger brothers were
too young for the war, and she felt it was her patriotic
duty to stand for America. That theme still runs through my
family. She and my dad were both stationed in Washington,
D.C., and were married at Camp Holabird, Baltimore, MD
November of 1944.After the war, they moved to my dad's
family home in Nevada City, California, which is where I was
born about a year later.
Paul Phy worked for Jesse George on the George estate for
over thirty years, and named his youngest son, my gggrandpa,
Jesse George Phy for an employer that he admired.
