Monday Morning, November 5, 1866
FATAL ACCIDENT - Michael Delany, while engaged in digging a well, on a property on Church Lane, Germantown, resorted to a blast to remove a piece of rock. The explosion occurred prematurely, and Delany was killed. The deceased was a resident of Germantown. An inquest was held on the body, and a verdict of accidentally killed was rendered. DeWITT, June 14,
James Kearney, Sr., an old settler of the State since 1844, and of this
county since 1854, died at his residence seven miles west of DeWitt, in
Welton township, Sunday morning, age 80 years and three months. He was
born in Ireland and came to Philadelphia in 1840, and thence to Scott
County near Davenport, as above noted. He was at one time in the early
50's coroner of that county. He leaves one son, James, Jr., and his
family on the home place, and an adopted daughter, Mrs. John Stephens of
DeWitt, and many friends mourn his demise.
