BLACKBURN, Alexander W., Alexander W. Blackburn, a Native of Stafford County, but at one time a resident of this place, died last Thursday*. He was for many years Fire Marshal in Philadelphia and was also well know in connection with the Police Detective Department. The “Star” says he was at one time an Apprentice to W. P. Cunningham, of this place, who was then conducting the tailoring business, and that he enlisted here when quite young and served through the Florida War.  Fredericksburg Ledger December 5, 1871.  Date of death November 30, 1871, Contributed by Helen Flail.

BURKHART - Lieutenant Commander John R. Burkhart, U.S.N. retired, died Sunday morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Dorothy Hunsberger, 1416 Devereaux st.  He was 66.  Commander Burkhart, who made his home in Browns Mills, N.J., saw active service in the Boxer Rebellion, the Spanish-American War, and crossed the Atlantic Ocean 18 times during the World War in convoy duty.  Surviving are his wife, Eleanor and another daughter, Mrs. Louise Sidner.  Military funeral services will be held Wednesday morning at Arlington National Cemetery, Washington.  Philadelphia Inquirer, page 4, Tuesday, September 16, 1941.  Contributed by: mlane10@pacbell.net
